What’s the purpose of erecting a statue?

If I was his family and someone suggested making a statue of him, I would ask them not to do it because I want him to Rest In Peace.

This is so wrong! The police was wrong in using excessive force against him but it does not change the fact that George Floyd was a criminal. Are they going to canonized him into sainthood as well?

If they have extra money, then better to memorialized the hospital workers that risked their lives during COVID time!

The person who suggested a shrine in his remembrance could have intentions or maybe was sincere but it was also the family’s decision to make.

I agree. He died a tragic death but that doesn’t mean a shrine should be erected for that cause.
He did got his justice and the cops involved are now serving their times behind bars.

It wasn’t a wise decision for the family to make if it was indeed them who agreed to constructing his shrine in his remembrance. Lam vay chung con ghet hon nua. Just a thought.

The firemen and policemen (the good ones) deserve it more for risking their lives to save lives than George Floyd!

If anything, I would like to see General Colin Powell's statue instead of this nonsense George. What was his contribution to the nation ? Is the NAACP blind ? Don't they think that it could be the backlash to all the fights that they'd fought by enshrining a statue of George Floyd ? There are many African-American people had done so many good deeds to this nation, why not enshrine these individual ? Folks like Harriet Tubman, I don't see her statue enshrined. Only her name is mentioned in the history books for her sacrifices during the Underground Railroad.

Totally agreed! They could pick other more deserving black person than Floyd!
