I’m trying to cut back spending so I can retire early.

Today is only 12/21 and my coworkers are giving presents already. Why didn’t they wait until Thursday because I wouldn’t be here on Friday?


Now, I’m obligated to buy and spend. Ko biet chung nao duoc retire nua day?

If you were not planning to get the person a gift, then don't. Hopefully next year they won't get you a gift then.

Otherwise if you get her a gift and not everyone élse in the team then it looks awkward as well.

They gave me presents last Xmas  but it was the day before I took off. Sao do het Xmas nen minh quen luon. Not only that, BDay ho cung mua do cho when they didn’t need too. Ko biet sang chi cho minh ton tien. ko mua thi ki, mua thi retirement cang them bi delayed. Sao kho^? qua’. 🥲

They all add up sis oi. Cho in-laws and a few cousins who are still gôing to school cash, and qua for other family members and friends ko -du? broke roi. Gio con phai ton them tien mua qua cho coworkers nua.

Neu biet truoc, I would gom het all the $2.50 per bottle lotion at Bath & Body already.

My son's coworker (a middle age Korean lady) gave him a box of cookies and I asked him if he wants to give her back a box of truffle chocolate that I bought at Costco. He said no because if he gives to her then he should give to all his other co-workers like she did. He does not want to start the tradition of having to buy gifts for people at work!

I used to have some Vietnamese staff and at first they would get me gifts like jewelery with precious stones. I gave everything back and told them I don't think it's right that they give me such ẽxpensive gifts like that. I requested that they stop doing that because I don't want the other team members said they bought favors from me!

Birthday họ nhớ ngày và mua qùa cho mình, đây là người tốt. Trên đời này không phải dễ gặp qua đâu.

Sis vẫn còn đi làm, vẫn có tiền, chưa thất nghiệp. Một năm vài lần qùa qua lại cũng không save được bao nhiêu. Trong cuộc sống xã giao hết sức quan trọng. Giàu vì bạn là vậy. Mình đã hơn nữa đời người rồi, đã qua kinh nghiệm này nhiều rồi, cũng đã có tiếc nuối rồi.

I think it’s easier for guys not to reciprocate but as a woman, thi khac’. Ko cho lai thi ko’ chiu because we deal with them daily.

Minh biet sis but everything adds up. Neu ko vi ham muon duoc retire som’ minh dau co’ cheap vay dau. Ai cho minh ko reciprocate thi thay Kho’ chiu. Cho roi cung thay kho’ chiu tai gi phai use more money. I guess this is the month no one can save at all.

I remember 1 time she told me she has every color sweaters except orange. Well, I found a sweater that’s orange yêsterday but got her baby blue because that matched the color of her eyes. Same price and everything but  I buy what I think is pretty on you, not what you don’t have.

Forcing yourself to reciprocate or being upfront, depending on how comfortable you are with your choices. As you stated, not giving any gift in return was not an option.

If I were you, I would have gotten her an orange sweater. Giving gift is to bring happiness to the receivers, it's not about what the giver thinks or wants in this case.

Wow, the power of presents. Moi reciprocated qua this morning gio moi co’ ask her for some help on looking up something at the bank and told her it didn’t need to be done today since she’s always so angry and busy. Guess what? An hour later, I went to the bathroom, came back and they’re on my desk already. Bribery is such a powerful tool! Roi, early retirement bi. bump them 1 nam nua roi.
